Browse Kihei ZIP Codes

A mailing label, Census place, county parcel, and community plan can all describe Kihei while drawing different lines. The Kihei ZIP code directory keeps those systems apart. Start with a full address, let the postal service standardize its delivery code, then compare the county's situs address and parcel key. A ZIP can narrow a search, but it cannot identify who lives at a home. That requires a record tied to a name, date, and official relationship, with each source read within its own limits.

Kihei ZIP Directory Coverage

Official USPS evidence supports one postal code associated with Kihei. The Kihei Post Office record and the Postal Bulletin both identify 96753. That makes it the defensible starting point for the ZIP code directory. It does not mean every South Maui place, community group, or planning area shares one exact border. A complete street address should still be checked through the live USPS tool.

The official post office line uses 96753-9998 for the facility itself. That ZIP+4 belongs to that delivery point and is not a blanket suffix for all Kihei mail. The Postal Bulletin links Kihei's five-digit code with Kahului processing. A processing association is not a claim that Kihei is within Kahului's municipal or Census boundary.

The USPS Kihei Post Office listing is the captured official source for the local postal association.

The facility record supports the code and mailing city, while the full-address lookup remains the right tool for a particular parcel.

Verify a Kihei ZIP Code

The USPS lookup provides three useful routes: a complete address to its ZIP, a city and state to possible codes, or a ZIP to its city information. During research, the live page returned an access denial, so no result fields or alternate city labels were invented. Use the official tool when it loads. If it does not, rely only on the Kihei Post Office page and Postal Bulletin for the general 96753 association, then try the live address again later.

  1. Enter the complete street line, including unit, city, and state, in the USPS ZIP lookup.
  2. Save the standardized mailing line and ZIP+4 exactly as returned, along with the date checked.
  3. Search Maui County by the situs address and capture the TMK. Preserve any difference between county and postal wording.
  4. Use the TMK in county or state parcel tools. Do not use the ZIP alone as a person's identity key.
  5. When a street-level record is needed, continue through the Kihei directory by street.

USPS warns that an address or ZIP result does not confirm that a named person or organization is at that location. It answers a delivery question. County assessment, deed, permit, and historical records answer different questions, and none should be silently merged into a current-resident claim.

Kihei ZIP and CDP Lines

Kihei CDP is a Census statistical place. ZIP 96753 is a postal delivery geography. The Kihei CCD is a separate Census county subdivision. Maui County also uses the Kihei-Makena Community Plan area, while the Kihei Community Association describes a broader South Maui civic service area. These boundaries overlap, but they are not interchangeable.

Census QuickFacts reports 21,423 people in Kihei CDP in 2020, with 9.36 square miles of land and density of 2,287.8 people per square mile. Those are CDP statistics. They are not the population, land area, or density of ZIP 96753. A valid 96753 mailing label may not resolve the question of whether a point falls inside the precise CDP line. A parcel geometry or Census map is needed for that.

Boundary rule. Label each result as postal ZIP, Census place, county parcel, planning area, or civic area. Never swap one for another.

Kihei ZIP Fields by Source

A ZIP field changes meaning from one system to the next. In USPS, it routes mail. In Maui assessment data, it can occur within an owner's mailing address, which may be far from the parcel situs. A voter form has residence and mailing ZIP fields, but the affidavit is regulated and is not an open casual lookup. Census data describes statistical geography rather than postal delivery.

Official systemZIP input or outputWhat it does not prove
USPSComplete-address, city/state, and ZIP/city routes; may return ZIP+4That a person lives at the address
Maui qPublic/RPAOwner mailing ZIP and address search contextThat mailing and parcel situs are the same
State parcel GISTMK and geometry are primary; ZIP is not a documented core parcel fieldA postal boundary or legal survey
Bureau of ConveyancesProperty address, TMK, and dated instrumentsCurrent occupancy
Voter formResidence and mailing ZIP fields under election rulesOpen name-to-address access
CensusCDP and CCD statisticsZIP 96753 totals or borders

Keep a source label beside every ZIP. That simple note prevents a mailing address from being mistaken for a physical parcel and stops a CDP statistic from being reported as postal data.

Move from Kihei ZIP to TMK

Once USPS standardizes an address, Maui County's parcel route can connect it to a tax map key. The Real Property Assessment Division links to qPublic search modes for location address, owner, TMK, map, and sales. Research could not inspect the live qPublic control order because the portal presented a challenge. The county's own documentation still supports the workflow, but no button label or card field should be assumed.

A TMK is more precise than a ZIP for parcel research. County ownership data distinguishes owner name and type, mailing address fields, and the parcel key. State GIS adds geometry, section, plat, parcel, tax acres, selected value fields, and a qPublic link. These are ownership and map facts. They do not show who currently occupies a home.

For a portal failure, use all documented channels. The Maui RPA page and county Online Services page route to property search, tax maps, field books, ownership-history books, and assigned-address information. RPA tax maps and ownership staff can be reached at 808-270-7226. A narrow UIPA request can seek an existing county address record, but the agency need not create a new ZIP-wide resident compilation.

Read Kihei Postal Terms

Postal terms look alike but describe different levels of mail routing. Defining them before a search keeps the postal directory from promising more detail than the source provides.

ZIP code
A five-digit USPS delivery code, such as the code officially associated with Kihei.
ZIP+4
The five-digit code plus four digits that narrow delivery to a smaller segment, route, building, or box group.
PO-box ZIP
A code or ZIP+4 used for post-office box delivery rather than a street location.
Unique ZIP
A code assigned to one high-volume organization or destination. No Kihei unique ZIP was established in the research.
Carrier route
A postal delivery sequence within a ZIP, not a neighborhood or resident boundary.

The local source set did not confirm a Kihei ZIP split, realignment, PO-box-only five-digit code, or unique institutional ZIP. Those categories remain useful definitions, but they should not become extra rows in the Kihei ZIP code directory without official evidence.

Kihei ZIP Is Not Identity

A five-digit code covers too much ground to distinguish one person. Some official systems contain ZIP fields for a narrow statutory role, but that does not turn them into a broad directory. The Hawaii Covered Offender Registry accepts a ZIP geographic filter and omits house or apartment numbers from its public summary. Its own warning says a name result may not establish identity and forbids misuse. It is not a general source for Kihei residents.

Voter data is also purpose-bound. Maui's application requires an election or government purpose, a sworn affidavit, delivery choices, and certifications against sale or commercial distribution. The dated form's fee and media should be confirmed with the County Clerk. Neither the registry nor voter process should be repackaged as a public ZIP-to-person search.

For personal family research, a better path is to begin with a known name and date in a historical directory, archive, probate file, or obituary index, then use the locality and parcel clues that record actually gives. Mark it as historical. A Kihei mailing code in an old item cannot establish a current address.

Map Kīhei Name Variants

The Hawaii Board on Geographic Names uses the spelling `Kīhei` for the CDP and named features, while USPS, portals, web addresses, and older OCR often show `Kihei`. Search both forms when a map or archive seems incomplete. Preserve the spelling printed by each source rather than silently changing a citation.

The Hawaii geographic names program supplies the official place-name context used to distinguish Kīhei features from looser South Maui labels.

This spelling check can recover a map or archival hit, but it does not change postal assignments or merge Kihei with nearby places.

Kalama, Kalepolepo, Wailea, Makena, Maalaea, and South Maui are useful query variants only when a plan, map, shoreline record, or historical source supports that link. The Kihei-Makena plan became effective in 1998 and covers planning geography, not USPS routes. KCA's civic area is broader still. The correct label should travel with each result.

Save a Kihei ZIP Result

A reusable record note should hold the exact address entered, USPS-standardized line, five-digit ZIP and ZIP+4, county situs wording, TMK, source links, access date, and any boundary label. Add a clear limitation, such as “postal delivery only” or “CDP statistic, not ZIP statistic.” If the live USPS result was unavailable, say so and cite the post office listing or Bulletin rather than guessing.

For help outside the web, use the Kihei Post Office's official location page, Maui RPA staff, county assigned-address routes, or Kihei Public Library reference service. Historical directories and State Archives maps may preserve a dated postal label, but their year and geographic scope must stay attached. That full source trail is what makes a postal directory useful without turning broad geography into a claim about a specific person.

Use ZIP data with care. A Kihei postal code narrows geography, not identity. Do not use it to expose, harass, or infer a protected address.
